Studying!
Study Tips & Study Skills
Every studies differently, but here are a few suggestions:
- don't try to do all your studying the night before the test. Try reviewing material a little bit at a time for a few minutes every day. You will remember more by studying a little at a time instead of all at once.
- have a spot in your home where you always do your homework and your studying
- your mind needs a break while you are studying so get up and take a few short breaks to do something fun, like listening to your favourite song
- don't just memorize things - you should be able to explain them in your own words and show that you actually understand the material. Write out a summary (just the important parts) or what you just studied.
- sometimes you can study with friends by asking each other questions or making 'tests' for each other
- ask someone at home to ask you questions
- make a list of the key words and define them
- try covering up answers (for example, on a science diagram) and try guessing them
- create a mixing and matching game with key words (example, in Social Studies) and their definitions
- use flash cards - write a word/term/keyword/question on the front, and write the definition/answer on the back
